These folks have figured out a way to extract the MPEG-2 stream from a COMCAST HD set-top box via firewire interface for Linux. This allows access to the raw MPEG-2 HD stream, as well as for streams from SD and even analog channels. Presumably for analog, the box is encoding it, but for the digital programming it's the raw MPEG sent over the cable network.

This would be so cool if this support could be integrated into Myth. It's like using the Cable box as a 1394 tuner. Very cool.

How hard would this be to integrate? It would give Myth capabilities even DirectTivo doesnt have.

Thanks,
Mike
