It's "Petersen" (but I forgive you - no one else can seem to spell it
correctly, either).

Anyway, -dev is for development discussion. There's plenty of that.
But in case you hadn't noticed, the developers are also quite active on
the -users list answering questions, etc.

If I want to read mythtv email lists: I hit a couple of keystrokes to
move to the virtual desktop containing my email program (Evolution, for
lack of a better option).

To read a forum: I have to go to my web browser, type in the name of
the bookmark or forum, log in, find the various threads I'd be
watching. Not to mention the page-load times if my dsl line has a
little load on it.

I personally don't want yet another thing I have to keep open on my
screen to watch - I already have half a dozen mailing lists, mail
folders for work-related stuff, an IM client, my editor (jEdit rocks!),
a web browser with 5-10 tabs open to pages I'm using/reading, and
gnome-terminal open to 3-4 different locations. And that's just the
stuff that I'm interacting with on a regular basis, and not stuff like
rhythmbox, pan and any other things I just happen to leave open.

I am and have been on a number of high-traffic lists like spamassassin,
mysql, apache... mythtv's traffic is high, but not THAT high (the mysql
list was bringing in 500+ messages daily when I was on it).

I don't think anyone is saying "you can't set up a mythtv forum." But
people *are* warning that most of the core mythtv developers (probably
the best source of help for stuff) won't be there.

Thus the ORIGINAL topic of this thread, to split the list, not create a
forum. Splitting the list would be up to the core developers (not me -
I wouldn't even really want to be a part of it), and yes, it might be
cool to have a mythtv-setup (for help setting up your myth box) or
mythtv-ivtv for the pvr-x50 users.

Anyway, so as not to increase the traffic on this list any more, I'm
going to shut up about this topic now.
