[mythtv-users] Sound Problems

After I installed ALSA, the sound was really crappy, so I uninstalled ALSA
and can now only get sound to work from KDE.  If I try to use mplayer (even
in a terminal window from an X session) it gives me an error saying that it
couldn't find a sound server.  Can anyone offer any suggestions on getting
back to the way I was before ALSA.i.e. getting sound working outside of the
test sound in KDE?
