I did just this (as I was used to the the feature in Tivo) by adding irexecs to play a wav 
file in my lircrc but I found that the sound was often not as fast as the other function 
(like FFW) so I'd press the FF button and it would FF and shortly after it would play the 
wav file (a tivo like sound).  So I scrapped the idea and now am used to the no sound 
but do occasionally have the delay (esp in the EPG or deleting a large recording) 
which I think is the IR not being received (as that does happen at times) and end up 
buffering a few duplicate commands which once the system starts responding 
executes the multiple keystrokes.
