This is also common on cable networks in Denmark.

I've been thinking of writing an xmltv filter that will add "virtual"
stations representing the shared channel slots.  The programming data
for these channels would then be a composite of the programmes from
the actual stations, according to the timetables of the channels.
Using this approach, no modification of MythTV is necessary (except
for calling the filter, which should be trivial).  I'm just too busy
right now to find time for this.

The other approach, to teach MythTV about shared channel slots, is
probably significantly more difficult, but might allow for a slightly
more polished experience, since the EPG and OSD will always display
the correct station name instead of the composite channel name
(e.g. TCM / Cartoon Network).
