No.  Do not make it a comment.  It is required if you want the devices
to show up automatically when the driver loads.  Since you have it set,
and the devices aren't showing up, it would seem that the driver is not
loading successfully.  However, your dmesg output indicates that the
driver IS loading so I don't know what could be wrong.  Perhaps you
should try building a kernel with only basic sound support
(CONFIG_SOUND=y), but with no other sound device thingies selected.
Then you could try using a different version of ALSA.
