For those looking for a myth machine or if you were planning on upgrading
the one you have, consider getting a Dimension or low end Poweredge. Why
you ask?

The Price:
$260 for a refurbished 2.2 GHz with warranty.

The Case:
It's perfect for HT. Small, black, well built (more solid than anything I
saw at compusa), and most importantly, SILENT. I priced out what it would
cost me to upgrade my current machine to make it this quiet, even attempting
to procure just this Dimension case somewhere, it's that awesome. The only
way I can hear it is if I put my ear right up to it.

The Compatibility:
Great for front or backend. 3 pci slots, hardware is easy to find drivers
and support for (knoppmyth detected everything perfectly).

If you get a cheap WinTV card for < $20, you're in the Tivo price range (and
far more capable and powerful). Throw a couple PVR-250's and you've got a
wicked backend.

Can you ever remember a time when it was so cool to be on the "lowend" of
computing. Who in the world spends $4000 on a premium home machine anymore?
