I had mythtv working great, but the computer puked on me and now I am
having sound trouble. I am running this under Gentoo and the newest
alsa-driver (sound driver is via82xx). I can get video and sound with
tvtime. I have also done a aplay /dev/dsp and I can hear the sound just
fine that way. I have sound from tv card going to line in on the sound
card.
The problem is when I try to watch a recording or live tv, I get the black
screen of death. The console that I launched from doesn't give much
information about any errors, however, the myth log has contains this:
Starting up as the master server.

I am a little confused as why aplay works and myth does not. I have
worked on this last night and this morning and need a little help. Anyone
have any more trouble shooting ideas or thoughts to help me get passed
this problem? What permission should /dev/dsp have? (/dev/dsp is
root:root 555 and /dev/sound/dsp is root:audio 660)
Thanks
Chris
