Yeah, I'm not sure I'd trust that :) But the larger problem is that the
useful range of disks for RAID-5 is 3-5, more than 5 starts to run the
risk of getting 2 failures.

Indeed. Although I don't use LVM on my myth box (It's just a single 200G
spindle, good enough :) ), I do on the other servers here to make
re-arranging things easier.
