Yes, just go with the accoustic managment recommended settings (afaik
visible in 'hdparm -iI /dev/hdX') and set that (hdparm -M /dev/hdX), you
might want to check if it sticks over a reboot. Else put it somewhere in
your init files (/etc/conf.d/local.start for Gentoo).

I found with my 80GB (and 8MB cache) Maxtor drive that the most silent
setting does affect read thoughput by aprox. 10%. But you might want to
test if it will do, with your RAID (so faster) system.
