[mythtv-users] Backend crashing a lot; unable to get backtrace!

You don't mention which distribution you're using, but I know that 
Mandrake has an issue with this, which I submitted to the Mandrake 
Bugzilla.  It's apparently in the way that gcc is compiled.

Googling for this error shows that gcc has to be compiled with the 
option --enable-checking
