I used the Xbox remote for a while -- it works right out of the box so it's
easy, but it doesn't have as many buttons as, say, a TiVo remote, so you
can't get to all the options in Myth.
I took advantage of the X10 Lola remote for $5 a couple of months ago, and
with an Xbox->USB adapter I was able to plug the receiver for that into the
Xbox. I had to recompile lirc (the version that comes with Xebian Linux
doesn't support the atiusb driver) but once I did that it worked well.
Now I've got a lot more buttons I can map to Myth functions.
Before I set up the Lola remote I tried to get a different remote working
with the Xbox IR receiver (that comes with the Xbox remote) but I couldn't
get it to receive anything (I'm guessing the Xbox remote uses a different
range of frequencies than the Comcast remote I was trying to use).
The Lola has the advantage of being an RF remote (so you don't have to point
it at the Xbox). If I hadn't been able to get the Lola so cheap, I probably
would have gotten an ATI Remote Wonder. (It uses the same lirc driver).
