[mythtv-users] www.mythtvtalk.com <- New forum

I could care less WHAT shape the container our forum has. Mail list,
phpBB, WIKKI, FAQ, 9600 dial up bulletin board system, yellow sticky
notes on the fridge, it doesn't matter.

What matters is that most the information is out there. The issue is,
the information is spread all over Internet, and has no central
index that is kept up to date. It's nearly impossible to find. For
example, it took me about a week of daily searches on google, on
ivtv FAQ, gossimer-threads, the various distro/myth/hardware forums,
and other Internet to find: 1) RPMs for SuSE 9.0, 2) MythMusic need
it's own version of QT on SuSE and 3) the all so important README
for the X-windows nvidia driver that describes all the "options" for
the "device" section for the card. Nvidia sure doesn't make this
file very easy to find.

It's great that people want to start their forum, with the hopes it will
became the greatest source for information out there. It's great that
we live in a time with tools that allow us to so that easily. It's
great that people want to help and develop totally awesome tools like
MythTV.

In Time, I suspect, it will be the mega search engines that will help us
the most. Google, should search the forums for us, and bring us to the
information we are seeking. Today, that is just not the case.

In the mean time, out of the frustration I and I'm sure many other Myth
newbies feel, I'm going to take the stance AGAINST ANOTHER FORUM! Lets
not fragment the location for Myth information any more than it
already is.

A suggestion: Merge the new forum with the "main" myth site at
mythth.org and have it endorse it as the "official" forum.

Just my .02
