Gert, I'm already very familiar with keypads, LCDs, and RS232.  I've 
designed dozens of microcontroller based circuits using them.  It's the 
PC side of things that I'm not sure about.  I just need to design the 
hardware and communication protocol so that very little custom software 
must be developed for the PC side.  Thanks for the offer, though.
