The mplayer patch was for outputting video using the pvr-350 osd, like
the framebuffer driver. This wasn't using the decoder.

There was a short thread on the ivtv-dev list a few days ago that
mentions playing various video formats on the pvr-350 tv output by
transcoding to vcd mpeg in realtime. Feeding this to the decoder, the
video comes out in the TV. See
http://www.poptix.net/ivtv/current/msg00964.html for the details.

Apparently, the pvr-350 card can accept raw YUV video and send it to
the TV output without the need for decoding, although this doesn't
work in the currently available ivtv drivers.

I know this doesn't help with playing DVD's as such, but it's still
interesting.
