Some years ago I used a program call runpipe or something like that.
You create a FIFO file and as soon as you try to open it it runs a 
predefined set program. So you just create as many pipes as you have 
mp3files and share them on a samba share. As soon as it is opened the 
program can stream the highquality mp3 to a converter and output them at 
a lower rate.
