well, that would do it I suppose.. :) Installing the 
mythtv-i686-lirc_0.14-1_i386.deb did the trick, and now the remote is fully 
working.  Knoppmyth is really a great distro...I tried for a week to get 
myth running on Fedora, and ended up running into problems with kernel/ivtv 
incompatabilities.. Getting that right mix is I think the key to a 
successful Mythtv install.... anyway, I'm a happy camper now... Thanks Ben.
