Mythrontend dies)

You may have seen my posts both here and on the dev list over the last
couple of weeks, regarding a problem I've been having with mythfrontend
dying inexplicably.
I've come to the conclusion that I'm not going to get MythTV working on my
system as it currently stands. I'm looking for advice on how to proceed
from here.
I have a Via EPIA M10000, a VisionPlus (TwinHan) DVB card, a Samsung 160GB
PATA drive, and 512MB Geil RAM. Does anybody have a config like this
currently working with MythTV? Conversely, does anyone know of any
specific issues with such a config and MythTV? I (think I) have ruled out
any hardware issues, since I've had DVB running under Windows on this
system just fine.
Assuming that the hardware should work, what would you recommend in terms
of software? I've been using Gentoo 2004.0, the EPIA patched Xfree 4.3.99,
and KDE 3.2, and am currently considering a rebuild. However, as I'm sure
those of you familiar with Gentoo will be aware, this is a non-trivial
task. Should I go for another distro, or just try something different with
this one?!
Cheers,
Jon
