I have an ATI TV Wonder VE
I made sure to stay away from buying the "all in wonder" card that the 
documentation said wouldn't work.

What would I need to do to help the operating system detect it 
correctly?

The rest of the system:
Mandrake 9.2 (multimedia kernel)
256MB RAM
Intel P1.3 GHz
40 gig HD
