[mythtv-users] MythTV, PVR-350, bt878 (bttv)

Hello, folks.

I have a MythTV box (NFORCE2 mb, Athlon 1800+, etc.) with a PVR-350 in it.
Works great, for the most part.

I need an extra tuner to get past the problem of my girlfriend's shows
*CONSTANTLY* conflicting with mine. (AGH!!)

I happen to have a WinTV BT878 based tuner board laying around, and am
wondering if MythTV can be configured such that i can use it.

I'd like to arrive at a situation where the BT878 board records shows and
encodes them to an MPEG-II format capable of being decoded by the decoder
on the PVR-350 directly, rather than having to use the (INCREDIBLY SLOW!!)
framebuffer on the 350 instead.

Can MythTV handle this right out of the box? (I'm using KnoppMyth in a
pretty much out-of-the-box configuration..) Or do i need to hack something
up to get it to work?

I know it'd be a lot easier to do this if I was just using a normal video
card with TV-Out, but I'm trying to do this without spending money.

What do you folks think?

Also, the box runs at negligable CPU usage most of the time, even when
recording and playing live TV at the same time - simply because the whole
9 yards is done in hardware, with the only real resource consumption is
disk I/O. I wonder what the bt878 will do to performance?

If any of you have comments or suggestions or whatnot, they would be most
welcome.

Thank you for any help you might be able to provide,

Chad
