Also,

there is the question of amount of storage, and of features. With MythTv:
- you can have as much storage as you are willing to pay for (I 
currently have about 1/2 Tb storage for MythTv from a RAID5 - we tend to 
record and view way later).
- you can have many frontends (I am using a frontend at the TV, but also 
several PCs with just the frontend so you can view TV while workig on 
the PC).
- more than 1 tuner. Usefull when several programs need recording at once.

None of these possible with Tivo...
