I had a couple of similar problems with the nVidia drivers that produced 
pretty much the same errors as this (i.e. X crashes out as soon as it 
starts). These were due to: 1) Not enabling an IRQ for the AGP slot and 2) 
Leaving out MTRR support in my Swanky New Custom Compiled Kernel. If you 
haven't already, check your BIOS and kernel config respectively.
