Joel, I've had this same problem launching particular files with MythVideo
as well. However, it doesn't seem restricted to samba shares. Indeed, I
copied a bunch of files over to my Myth machine and the problem persisted.
I don't know why, but certain files just don't seem to launch mplayer (or
xine -- as I've tried making each the default player). And in my case, as
in yours, I am able to view these files by launching the player from the
command line. My suggestion is to try moving your files over to your Myth
machine and see if the problem persists. If it does, then you can rule out
samba. Unfortunately, you (and I) will still be in the dark as to what's
going on.

-David
