I think that's exactly what he's saying.

A forum allows one to subdivide the topic of "MythTV" further, making searches
and organization of information easier.

Does Gossamer Threads split the mailing list by topic?  No.
Does it allow for "sticky" posts with important information and FAQs?  No.

People may argue that wikis provide the latter, but in my experience, wikis are
horrendously disorganized and we'd all be better off if they didn't exist.  Just
look at the ALSA support wiki...  God forbid you actually want to find any
useful information there.  (ALSA has to be one of the worst documented projects
in the open source world thanks to their assumption that a wiki is a good way to
maintain documentation.)
