[mythtv-users] rpms for mythtv 0.15

In contrast to step 5 below (sorry about top-posting), the main docs
(section 21.19) say to answer "yes" to the clear program/channel settings
questions. This worked for me.

I *did* manage to lose my channel icons, though. The main docs explain how
to avoid that, but the preliminary steps probably need to be followed before
the apt-get install mythtv-suite.

Since my kernel and ivtv drivers are very stable (by my standards, I reboot
once a month for good measure), here are the steps I took to upgrade.

Note: I build my system following Jarod's Guide back in Feb, and I'm using
ATrpms for my rpm repo.

1. Stop the frontend and the backend.
2. apt-get update
3. apt-get install wget
4. apt-get install mythtv-suite
5. mythtvsetup, answered "no" to both questions, and after I setup a
DataDirect account
6. mythfilldatabase, grabbed 12 days worth of programs for ~75 channels in
about 2 minutes.
7. start the backend
8. start the frontend
9. verify all went well, and it went better than expected!

I opted to try to upgrade without upgrading my kernel and ivtv drivers,
because last time (back in Feb.) when I attempted to upgrade the whole
system, I broke everything. So I started from scratch, and glad I did.

I hope yours goes as well as my (the whole process took me 15 minutes
total!)

the Red Hat and Fedora Core rpms for mythtv, all add-ons, themes

Notes:
o RH7.3 has not been rebuild for 0.15, since there are some C99
constructs the RH73-gcc compiler cannot cope with.
o Fedora Core 2 rpms are also available
o mythtvsetup is in its own rpm now.

Many thanks to Isaac and the developer crew, as well as Jarod for his
excellent guide, and the testers and reporters of the CVS rpms.

Thanks for putting these up! Now I can attempt to upgrade from 0.14 to
0.15. Does anyone have an idea which would be "easier":

- Should I just put in a new drive in the system, and do a clean install
(allowing me to back out to 0.14 if need be)

  or

- Should I just run and apt-get dist-upgrade and let the magic happen?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Dan
