[mythtv-users] Australian HOWTO?

Hey Glenn,
 
How easy did you find the settings for the Nebula? I am trying to set one up
at the moment using Gentoo Linux with a 2.6.9 kernel.The box itself is rock
solid, and I am pretty sure I am not far off getting the thing finalised,
but I am having issues with displaying TV via xine or mplayer, so I figure
it won't work with MythTV until I can sort that side of it out.
 
I have run dvbstream and managed to get lock on a channel, and have then run
scan dvb-t and compiled a list of channels for my area (Adelaide), but I
just can't get it to display TV!! Mplayer and zine were both compiled with
DVB options so it all should work, but so far no go.
 
Appreciate any pointers you might have.

Anyways, my setup

Using a Shuttle SB52G2 - From any Shuttle Distributor
Onboard video and Sound - crappy, but not really using it anyway (sits in a
server rack)
Celeron 2.6ghz, 1gb RAM - Got em at the local PC Fairs
80gb Boot Drive - Out of my X-Box
200gb Drive for Local Video Storage - PC Fairs Again
3tb remote drive for remote video storage
Nebula DigiTV PCI - Local reseller www.digitalnow.com.au

Fedora Core 2
Used the Jarod Wilson guide (had to expand on the instructions a bit since
I'm a bit of a Linux n00b).

Initial setup was quite painful, think it took me about 4 full rebuilds,
each time getting a bit closer to the mark.  Most of that was due to my
Linux n00bness I'm sure, and not knowing exactly where to put files etc.
The actual MythTV setup was probably the smoothest part of the whole
operation.

Jarod Wilson's guide is probably one of the better ones out there, however
there was a reasonable bit of implied Linux knowledge in parts. There is
also a number of places you need to go get components (such as tv_grab_au),
therefore at some point you need to veer away from jarods guide to finish
the job.

After all of that, my setup now works very well except for the recent
cant-get-the-damn-epg-data-anymore episode.  I've also pressed the X-Box
into service as a MythTV front end.  Works great, and watching tv on the
x-box is always nice to confuse people *grin*.

Only real outstanding problem I have is getting videos from the myth box
back out onto my pc platform, primarily so I can hang onto videos whilst not
filling up the myth box.  As with Linux, nothing is impossible.

What I'd do different:
 - Probably change the PC case.  The shuttle is an excellent form factor,
but due to the size of videos I'd probably want to put in a couple of 300's
or something, which the shuttle case doesn't really work for.
- Probably get some Linux help.  Whilst I did end up getting MythTV working
correctly, I'm sure there are a couple of things I did wrong that are still
lurking around.
- Also get a DVB-S card.  I may end up doing this shortly anyway, to get the
FTA Satelite stuff.
