Exactly.  the OP is only doing "modprobe ivtv".  I'm betting ivtv-fb 
isn't loaded.  Do an lsmod after startup and see if ivtv-fb is loaded.  
If not, why not?  You either need to modify your modprobe.conf, or maybe 
just "modprobe ivtv-fb" would do it.
