It seems like a problem with the myths lircrc configuration file. Myth 
uses the ~/.mythtv/lircrc file for the button definitions, whereas 
mplayer uses ~/.lircrc . Check if the ~.mythtv/lircrc file exist, is 
readable for the user running myth (file permissions), and for typo's in 
the file itself.
