The shortest path to a working MythTV box are Jarod's
Guide and KnoppMyth.  Jarod's Guide has been discussed
already, so I will recommend you look into KnoppMyth. 
It is a full distribution that includes Knoppix
(Debian) and MythTV on one CD.  It couldn't be easier
to install, and it has great support by a very active
