It doesn't seem too common now. I haven't seen any changes in Melbourne
for months.

Taylor Jacob and others are working on significant improvements to DVB
support in Myth which means it will automatically detect PID changes.
(You won't have to enter the PIDs, just service IDs, and there'll be a
scanner for those; Myth will find out the PIDs on-demand).
