Hi all:

Just looking for a point in the right direction. I just switched up
to the nvidia 6629 drivers. Installed from rpms, the
nvidia-graphics6629, the -devel and -lib also.

I'm on FC2, 2.6.8-1.521, athlon xp2200

x.org = 2.6.7.  all from rpms.

Initially when I installed the 6629 drivers, X would not start. I
found after much messing around that I needed to mknod /dev/nvidia0
and /dev/nvidiactl. After I did, x would start.

Unfortunately, when KDE booted up, I have been getting some really
weird results. I've attached a screenshot. the KDE load-up splash
screen doesn't go away. the nvidia splash background is there, not
the standard blue kde background. Application clicking and menus
don't work correctly.

I'm about to try another window manager and see how I do.

I'm about to try another window manager and see what's up.

Also -- in working on this, I found that mythbackend won't fire up
unless the mythtv user is logged in. I've traced the problem to
ownership of /dev/dsp* and /dev/video*. When no one is logged in,
mythbackend can't access the devices. As a hack, in my mythbackend
startup script I put in "/bin/chmod 777 /dev/dsp*" etc, before it
lights up the backend. This is a kludge.

How do I fix it right?

Thanks, All.
John.
