[mythtv-users] mythfrontend hang OSS audio device '/dev/dsp0'

First my hats off to all the developers who have contributed to this
project and everyone that helps in these lists/forums. You're awesome.
I've searched around on google through the mailing list and haven't
found the solution to my problem. My apologies if I've missed it.
The system I'm having troubles with is my master back end server. It's
an old HP PIII-800MHz w/ 256MB PC100 SDRAM and Intel i810 video/audio.
Upgraded video card to GeForce4 MX 4000 128MB SDRAM. TV Capture is a
newer Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250 (idx=85, tuner=50 - TCL 2002N)
I'm using FC2 and thus I followed Jarods guide (Excellent walk
through) since my tuner is newer I had to install bleeding versions of
v4l and ivtv. A few days ago I had all video recording, transcoding,
live tv working properly without sound. At first I tried to get the on
board i810 to work however the front end would hang when trying to
watch a recorded show OR live tv. When I ran 'mythfrontend -v all' the
last line written to the console is:
Opening OSS audio device '/dev/dsp'.
I tried disabling the on board and using my an Ensoniq PCI but the
problem is the same. I've made sure that I'm using the correct version
of msp3400 and that there are no conflicts and aRts is turned off. Now
I'm wondering now if the sound is actually the problem? I have since
removed all sound cards, depmod-ed and now I can't get anything run at
all. The backend runs fine and is still actively recording and
transcoding scheduled shows. Sometimes when the frontend hangs you can
Alt+Tab over to the console and check the output, other time you loose
the keyboard and monitor but I can ssh in over the network and the
backend is still running fine. I'm attaching:
