I am not he, but I used native support built into kernel 2.6.6 and higher.

Neither.

Don't need it. It is built in. Even have mouse support.

Works fine for me. The default keys weren't all too myth friendly so I
modified them. Attached is a patch for 2.6.8.1. I am using 2.6.9-rc4
now so let me know if you have any problems compiling.
modprobe -r ati_remote
cd {your kernel source}/drivers/usb/input
patch -Np0 < {where you saved patch}/ati_2681.patch
cd ../../..
make modules
cp drivers/usb/input/ati_remote.ko /lib/modules/`uname
-r`/kernel/drivers/usb/input
modprobe ati_remote
