Just an FYI. 

I just submitted a patch to the dev list that implements this feature.  
I liked your idea and went ahead and did it.  Hopefully Isaac will agree 
and apply it to CVS.  It is accomplished as another item on the On 
Screen menu which appears when hitting MENU while watching.
