[mythtv-users] Transcoding HDTV for regular TV viewing

I have a HD-2000 card, but I don't have a HDTV yet. Some stations come
in much better in broadcast HDTV than from cable, and I would like to
record the HDTV version, and then transcode it down to regular TV
resolution (keeping it letterboxed for 16:9 shows). (Without
transcoding, this works, but I quickly run out of disk space.)

I run my display at 640x480, which is the resolution I normally record
at. I think for 16:9, I would want to transcode to 640x360.

Ideally, this should be separate settings from those for regular
transcoding, so I can still convert my normal MPEG-2 files to MPEG-4
files of half the size for things I won't be watching right away.

Does anyone have experience with this? In my initial playing around
with it, I didn't get very far.
