[mythtv-users] mpeg2video errors in mythbackend.log then backend dies with error code 139

I am getting mpeg2video errors. These errors have begun since the upgrade to 0.16 and seem to be associated with the flagging of commercials in programs previously recorded. Is this a known problem with a known solution, or do I need fire up the debugger? (More likely I would try to roll back to 0.15.) There are a lot of posts in mythtv-users reporting similar problems, but I have observed no clear solutions.
