i use alsamixer, but yes, i've had the same problem ... receiver still 
says Dolby D until i turn off the optical raw switch, then it says 
"ProLogic II" or "All Ch Stereo" (essentially meaning only two audio 
channels) and i have sound again ... [onkyo ht-r500 receiver]
