Well I cured this problem by using ffmpeg instead of libmpeg2 - but obviously 
this only applies to mpeg2 recordings. Still if you have the libmpeg2 option 
selected, try without - I suspect that that you may be recording in mpeg2 not 
mpeg4 (especially if it is a DVB card, Nova-T for example).
