Hi

Nobody responded to my original request, so I've been doing a lot of playing
around with all the options available, such as mkmovie, nuvexport to divx and
xvid, and also playing with all the various tools available on Linux such as
mencoder, ffmpeg, etc

A lot of the methods I tried all ended up with similar results, but I
was always
left with a lot of progressive scan issues on the portable, and quite
often the
sound would be a second or so delayed (this may be because of a separate
problem I seem to be having with my dvb card skipping after about 4:30 minutes
on every recording at the moment for some reason I haven't quite worked out.
Also, some of the more satisfactory results required enormous amounts of
processing time on an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 3200+ Processor and processing through
two separate programs.

Anyway, the reason for the post was to say that it looks as though I've struck
gold. The following command gives me fantastic results every time with
no audio
snyncing problems whatsoever. Also, this encodes direct from the Myth nuv file
directly to the avi in one go. On my system it encodes about 25fps which is
realtime for the uk, also I'm not sure if I should be expecting a better
compression ratio - ie, a 1.8Gb file compresses down to about 480Mb

mencoder -oac mp3lame -vf scale=352:192 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts
pass=2:bitrate=900 -o /mythtv/video/Jamies\ School\ Dinners.avi
/mythtv/recordings/1008_20050309210000_20050309220000.nuv

I hope this helps anyone out in a similar position to myself.

Incidentally, does anyone know whether mythweb is going to be updated to allow
you to queue jobs remotely? It's be well handy if I could queue a job up to do
this.

Cheers

Mike
