[mythtv-users] air2pc off ebay?

I hope this isn't too stupid/weird/unclear a question, but do I need
to use the patched kernel?  More specifically, I would like to use the
binary FC3 2.6.12 kernel.  Can I patch & compile the kernel, but use
the resulting kernel modules with the off-the-shelf binary kernel?
Does the patch touch the actual kernel?
