Try using hdparm on your cdrom / dvdrom / hard drives, hdparm -d 1 -c 1 -E
48 -a 4096 'cdrom|dvdrom'

Subject: [mythtv-users] cd ripping slow? -> What's to be expected.

Dear all,

I've recently put together a setup with fairly decent specifications, see
below. As far as I can judge right now everything works ok. However, ripping
CDs (to mp3) takes quite a while, about 10 minutes. I would say that at 48x
speed this could be done much faster. Since I can't do much else with mythtv
during the ripping process I would like to configure things as much as
possible for optimum speed.

Could someone please enlighten me how long riping an "average" CD would
take?

thanks in advance,

Ronald

Here are my specs:

HDD 250 GB, 7200 Rpm, 8 MB, Serial ATA II/300
Intel Celeron D 325J 2.53 GHz, 533 MHz,
Memory 512 MB, PC3200, 400 MHz,
Hauppauge PVR-150
Asus V9400-X /TD 128 MB
DVD-Writer BenQ DW1640 CD reading speed: 48x
