That's exactly what I've done. The CVS ebuilds are kept relatively up
to date (and I used them for quite a while, so thankyou to whoever maintains
them). But they do break from time to time, and since I've not taken the
time to learn how to write an ebuild, when the cvs-ebuilds used to break,
I'd be stuck with whatever version of mythtv-cvs I had...bugs and all.
So I stopped using the cvs-ebuilds, and maintain mythtv myself now.
As for my experiences with myth on Gentoo, it's been fantastic for me,
but then, I've never used any other distro (well, Debian WAAAY back), so I
can't say whether it's better, or worse.
At this point, I couldn't possibly think of using another distro...I've
learned so much about Linux from Gentoo being so hands-on, I've really come
to enjoy it. As disturbing as that might sound. Ha. :-)
