Audio is captured and encoded by the PVR-x50s I use, not by the onboard audio.
 If you're asking if that audio plays back through the digital output, of
course it does...it'd be pretty useless if it didn't.  MPEG audio (whether in a
TV recording, SVCD, or VCD) gets decoded and sent out to the surround receiver
as PCM audio (same as if you used the digital output on a CD player).

As for whether live audio from a dumb-framegrabber card (like a Bt878) would
get sampled and played back on a S/PDIF output on-the-fly, I have no idea.
I've not tried doing that (mainly because I don't have a dumb-framegrabber card
in my MythTV box).
