I don't have a Kameleon, but I was considering getting
one until I learned that the backlit buttons per mode
was programmed in the hardware (so say the folks on
the JP1 forum).
I don't want to copy/paste the full instructions here,
but you can find out how I programmed my URC-6131 with
the EFCs at my website
Basically, you're looking to use the 992 code to enter
EFCs, and then you just need to determine the EFCs
available for the mode you have your remote in.
If the Kameleon doesn't support the 992 code (which
isn't documented in the Kameleon manual, mind you, it
wasn't documented in my 6131 manual either), then
you'll have to use JP1.
