I have that card, but in another (unrelated) machine. In this machine
the sound card is
00:14.5 Multimedia audio controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP150 AC'97
Audio Controller
Subsystem: Soyo Computer, Inc: Unknown device a428
Flags: bus master, 66Mhz, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 5
        Memory at febfcc00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256]

which is onboard. I've also got a PVR-250 and HD-3000 in this box.
When I look around I see that the following packages were updated via
apt-get dist-upgrade on May 28:

pygtk2-2.4.1-fc3.1.i386.rpm
pygtk2-libglade-2.4.1-fc3.1.i386.rpm

which as of this writing are all the latest for my kernel,
2.6.10-1.770_FC3. I also tried using another kernel with no luck.
One thing I do recall is after the update, the 'alsactl restore'
didn't work to actually restore the sound card settings because of
differences in the driver. Using alsamixer, I had to unmute the
master or pcm or something in order that sound was working and then
'alsactl store' to make it so 'alsactl restore' worked upon reboot. i
also think that it isn't just mplayer who has a problem, as I tried to
use 'Internal' as the video player and mythtv also had sound sync
issues when playing back xvid.avi.
