[mythtv-users] Why doesn't my DVB-T card record in MPEG-2?

I have 2 Kworld V-Stream Xpert DVB-T cards in my MythTV box. I believe
these cards just dump the MPEG-2 broadcast stream straight to disk. I
used to have BT8x8 cards which recorded in MPEG-4, so I've noticed
that I'm running out of disk space more quickly these days and
programs are getting archived sooner than they used to.
So then I started looking at automatic transcoding to reduce the disk
space usage, and this is when I got confused. My questions are as
follows.
1) When I went into the recording profiles ("Hardware DVB Encoders")
setup screens I noticed that the only Codecs available for these cards
are RTJPEG or MPEG-4. How come if it's recording MPEG-2?
2) To set up some transcoding rules which transcoder should I be
selecting - RTJPEG/MPEG4 or MPEG2? I would have thought it would be
MPEG2, but item 1) has got me all confused.
The only thing I can think is that the recording profile is irrelevant
as there is no recording profile applied - the broadcast stream just
gets dumped to disk as is. In which case I assume that I should set up
a transcoding profile for MPEG2 --> RTJPEG or MPEG4. Is that correct?

Phill
