this may not be much help, but I also have that problem. You can see my 
specs if you search for the recent thread regarding no sound on pvr150 - 
that may help to isolate the problem. I have had the artifacts problem 
on my older pvr250. For me it is somewhat rare, so I haven't put much 
effort into it. Maybe 5% of recordings. I have not noticed the fact that 
"once it starts it's fixed by a reboot" - may be hard since I don't get 
it all the time.
