Your second question is trickier. The easiest way is Knoppmyth,
provided you have hardware that is compatible. But if you're new to
Linux, you may not know where to begin when things don't do what you
expect them to -- this is particularly true if you're not sure what to
expect.

Although it involves more time, following Jarod Wilson's excellent
guide for Fedora will give you a much better idea of how the various
components all fit together. This is very helpful once the initial
thrill of a working box wears off and you start thinking about
expansion.
