[mythtv-users] PVR-150

I'm having a difficult time getting a new PVR-150 to work in my system.
Presently, I am not getting any output out of /dev/video0.

There is a lot going on here, so I'll try to lay it out as clearly as
possible.

My system:

-1002 Mhz PIII w/ 284 MB of RAM
-Running FC4, kernel 2.6.13_1.1532_FC4
-PVR-150
-Old Pinnacle bttv card
-Moto DCT-6200 attached via Firewire

Background:
-Last year I had this system running as a backend on FC3 using the Bttv card
as my only capture card. Then Comcast cut off my free cable so I went back
to my trusty DirecTiVo. I bought 2 of these in March 2002 for $100. Best
$100 I ever spent. God, I love those things. I'm still using my DirecTivo,
but I'm considering moving to Myth when I make the transition to HDTV, and
I'm trying to get a Myth box back up and running before shelling out for an
HD capable frontend.

Timeline:

Sat. 10/22: Following Jarrod Wilson's uberguide, I do a fresh install of FC4
and Myth. I skip the capture card setup steps for now.

Tues-Wed: After some difficulty involving kernel release versions and ivtv
build versions, I get matching kernel and ivtv versions installed. At this
point, I am able to get static from "cat dev/video1 > test.mpg" After
searching for solutions to this problem and finding nothing definitive, I
try capturing via the composite out from the DCT-6200. Game 4 of the World
Series is under way and time is of the essance.

Wed, ca. 9:00 PM: Success! I am now watching the game. The PVR-150 is much
better at capturing video that the Houston bats, and hits just as well, too!

Wed, ca. 10:00 PM: As long as I'm at my computer and watching the game, I'll
see if I can continue the install process while watching the game. I still
have to get LIRC and Firewire capture working.

My Other Computer:
-PII 450Mhz w/ 458MB of RAM (it has to run iTunes and Rhapsody)
-Win2K (previously KnoppMyth, used as a frontend)

While I am watching the game, I SSH into the Myth box and begin to install
the necesary packages for Firewire capture. Mythfrontend chokes hard during
the install process, but the install finishes fine. System is rebooted after
install.

Wed, ca. 11:30: White Sox win World Series. Good times. I leave frontend
running in LiveTV mode, turn off monitor, and go to bed.

Thurs.: Frontend is frozen. After reboot, not only is capture no longer
working, but /dev/video1 doesn't even exist anymore. Regardless, I am able
to get LIRC up and running using the Hauppage remote.

Sat. 10/29: After much frustrastion, I have firewire capture working. I now
have a remote and something to control. LIttle progress made with the
PVR-150, though. I have removed the bttv card and was able to capture static
from /dev/video0 one time. Have not been able to repeat that meagre success.
