So amplify it as soon as it gets into your house, before 
any split occurs.  I realize you're probably amplifying noise, 
but at that point it may be wise to try and get the cable co.
to fix its problems.

Odds are you'll need a cable box.  Depending on your 
provider (where are you?), you may be able to get away 
with being able to get away with no capture card - just 
do everything via firewire!

I do have one question - if we got digital cable is there a TV card

there that would decode all of the channels for mythTV?
